Pencey X Mia Moretti - Spring/Summer 2013 (Lookbook)
Founded in 2007 by designer Christina Minasian and business partner Alan Mak, Pencey is named after the prep school in the famous novel by J. D. Salinger entitled Catcher In The Rye. With such a perfectly preppy name it's hard to imagine the brand not being the same, and it's safe to say that the pieces are as classic as the novel itself. Minasian and Mak have come such a long way since the beginning of their line, with new additions to their name and more and more collaborations.
Since it's founding, Pencey has created Pencey Standard, a more luxurious collection including standard tee's and shirts, Pencey Shoes, their very own shoe line, and finally Pency Spring/Summer 2013, a collaboration line with the stylish DJ Mia Moretti. Presented at The Grey Lady in the Lower East Side of New York City, Pencey's SS13 line is a 10 piece jazz-inspired collection that was centered around "the perfect pant", what they consider to be the absolute pair of pants. DJ Mia Moretti is known for her casual and unique take on fashion, so she was the obvious choice to Minasian and Mak. Moretti is best known for opening for artists such as Stevie Wonder and Avicii, and she is the official DJ to artist Theophilus London. She's close friends with DJ/model/writer Cory Kennedy, who happens to be a model in her SS13 collection.
The show featured hair styling by Marcos Diaz for Ion Salon, make up by Jason Kaplan for Dior, and classic sneakers by Converse. The collection contains many must-have basics for next Spring, like an oddly but lovely cut fushia blazer and the "perfect pant". The studded denim backpack is varsity with an edge, which I love, and I can't help but want all of the flower headbands sported on the runway (seen above left on Mia Moretti). Below is a list of the 4 models from the collection and their favourite songs of the moment, that is Cory Kennedy, Chloe Norgaard, May Kwok and Moretti, asked by Nylon Magazine.
