A New Day Has Come For Céline Dion's Style

On Our Radar

I can’t believe I’m saying this: Céline Dion is the new darling of the fashion industry.

Most people would have scoffed at this until recently – after all, Québec’s unofficial First Lady had never been known for being particularly fashion-forward. Everything changed last summer during Couture Week in Paris. Dion sat front row at the biggest shows, surprising everyone with a series of edgy looks (including the now iconic Vêtements Titanic hoodie), a tongue-in-cheek nod to the film that cemented her superstar status back in 1997. Since then, her name and daring sartorial choices have been on everyone’s lips.

Céline’s high-fashion transformation is the project of style mastermind Law Roach, who also works with Zendaya and Ariana Grande. Last time the singer attempted such a transformation, it was in 1987 with the release of the French album Incognito. It wasn’t exactly…successful, and even hardcore Dion fans look back at this period with a laugh. Fast forward 30 years, and in Roach, Céline has finally found someone who managed to capture her quirky and campy diva essence. There is something absolutely magical in seeing a 49-year-old woman who is still recovering from her husband’s death embracing the fun side of fashion in such a bold way. This all crystallized in a delightfully funny video published by Vogue where the diva sports 6 haute couture looks while playing toreador, feeding waiters fries, and chewing on a mannequin head, to the beat of Boney M’s Daddy Cool. She may be crazy like a fool, but we love her like that!
