ONE UNDONE | Unconventional Fashion Designer Pedram Karimi Releases His Latest Lookbook
We're always on the cusp of wanting to know what local Montreal designer Pedram Karimi has got up his sleeves. His avant-garde image brands him as a designer who likes to make garments that could stand-alone as art-pieces, and he definitely knows how to pick the right models to showcase his looks. His latest 2017 campaign is in, and we are getting great vibes from it.
He had a lot to say about the inspiration:
5 years ago when I launched my gender free brand, I was not as porous and absorbent as today, but again the world 5 years ago was a different world. Over a year ago my message was matriarchy and this season my message is HUMANITY. I feel like being a humanist is the next step in reaching higher consciousness. 7
Even though we live in a trend driven culture, my brand is too conscious and way too small to play the fashion game, so ive decided to stay out of it, But I feel greatfull for this platform I’ve been given and responsible to push social freedom to greater heights.
The fall winter campaigns are inspired by the super alert yet inhumane & hard edged world we live in. my response to our current social and political turmoil was dressing the models / ballet dancers in draped, softly structured clothes and give them an overall feminine, romantic (selflove) yet anxious look.
I believe Everything starts with the “ONE WITHIN “ and what better way to present that with the models examining themselves in the slightly bent plexi mirrors that helps distort the way they look.
I’ve always been fascinated with mirrors cuz everyone sees what they want to see in them. So this concept of feeling flawless or flawfull when you look in the mirror is such a delicate mind game so many of us play everyday … I combined this internal interaction with the feminine looking aesthetics to promote femininity, sensitivity and vulnerability. I find those attribute so humane and empowering.
