Tarkovsky & Jet Lag : An Interview With Model Amalie Gassmann

On Our Radar

Scouted at just 12 years old, Amalie is living life to the fullest; studying film, exploring the world, and playing dress up with haute couture. We got to chat with our go-to girl for outfit inspiration, check it out!

What are you working on right now?

I consider myself  a creative person, so that involves modeling, writing, directing, styling and right now I’m studying film at Bard College.

Where are you from? Where are living now?

I was born in San Francisco, and grew up in Paris. I don’t really know haha.. because of work I’m constantly traveling so I mostly live between LA, New York, and Paris.

How did you get into modelling? How old were you?

I was scouted by someone’s mother at my high school when I was 12, and signed with IMG at 16. Been with them ever since!

What’s the greatest opportunity modelling has brought you ?

It’s been an amazing journey so far. I’m so thankful to have met so many creative people, and traveling to places like Sydney and Hong Kong were wonderful opportunities. Working with brands like Mac, YSL, Guerlain, Armani, and shooting a perfume campaign for Lanvin have definitely been highlights. I also love discovering and following emerging brands, like AaltoAlyx, and Chapel - visiting their showrooms, and putting together my own looks.

What's your favourite place to travel?

Currently I’d say LA. I love how creative and laid back it is... after living in New York the past two years, LA is a good break from the hectic city.

What's your beauty routine? Are there any secrets you swear by?

I drink a lot of water, hydration is the best remedy for jet lag and dull skin. Whenever I have a job or a casting I do a face mask and since I can’t wear makeup, I put on a highlighter base for a glow. I change up my products so my skin doesn’t get used to the formula but my current obsession is the brand It Cosmetics - I use their cream, primer and anti aging armor.

What outfit do you feel most confident in?

My style is always evolving, but I lean towards street/edgy with a classic element to it. I wear menswear too, because I love the oversized fit and color palette. A typical look for me is a good pair of sneakers, camo pants, half tucked in Off-White tee, off the shoulder bomber with my hair in a bun, and an ear cuff.

A dinner party with your 4 favourite people. Who do you invite?

Because I’m a film nerd Andrei Tarkovsky, Derek Cianfrance, and Wes Anderson. And for fun, Eddie Sedgwick.

Is fashion an important part of your life? Why?

Yes! Fashion is very important to me because it’s a means of creative expression like film and writing.

Keep up with her on Instagram!
