WRKDEPT Release SS17 Lookbook "A Place Called Chiapas"
A colourful lookbook inspired by Southern Mexico.
Montreal-based label WRKDEPT just launched their Spring Summer 2017 lookbook, inspired by "A Place Called Chiapas".
We were particularly drawn to the Zapatista artwork, which appeared in mural forms all over Chiapas and Mexico, and eventually on the new and internet depicting both men and women militants uniformed and armed universally in camouflage and masks.
What emerges for SS17 is a unisex wardrobe that is about a disciplined uniform, centered around the classic military dress shirt. Chiapas is Southern Mexico’s Indigenous territory where the emergence of the ‘eco-terrorism’ revolution of the Zapatista army of National Liberation was held. The revolution was seen as social movement, seeking indigenous control over their local resources, cultural practices, and land.

WRKDEPT will be launching the collection during a runway show at Centre Phi on December 13th.
