Man! Canadian Music Week is in its 35th year.

That's 35 years of pure music biz #flex AND contribution towards North America's accelerating music industry. You and I both know the wise mon that once said,

"... started from the bottom, now we here,"

and those words my friends, have never been more true than they are today.

Anyway, so CMW spans 6 nights with hundreds of artists performing at more than 30+ live venues around the downtown Toronto core, kicking off April 18th - 23rd. Here are our absolute must-see showcases for you to check out:

1. Charlotte Day Wilson

Talk about sultry... "Charlotte Day Wilson is a singer, producer and songwriter from Toronto. Her powerful live performance, studio skills and uncommonly expressive voice have immediately cemented her as one of Toronto’s most exciting new acts. Classically trained on the piano, jazz-trained on saxophone and self-taught on guitar and vocals, Charlotte's abilities transcend what she considers the rigid confines of the classical and jazz institutions. With a focus on creating music that is at once intimate and accessible, driven by the honesty of her voice, Charlotte-s debut CDW has wasted no time garnering this future star the global attention she deserves." - CMW

Genre: R&B
Latest Release: Stream CDW (2016)
Must Hear Track: "Work" (2016)

April 19th @ 10PM via Mod Club Theatre (Doors at 8PM)
April 20th @ 10PM via Mod Club Theatre (Doors at 8PM)

2. Explosions in the Sky

"Explosions in the Sky is an American post-rock band from Texas. The quartet originally played under the name Breaker Morant, then changed to the current name in 1999. The band has garnered popularity beyond the post-rock scene for their elaborately developed guitar work, narratively styled instrumentals what they refer to as "cathartic mini-symphonies," and their enthusiastic and emotional live shows." - NPR

Genre: Post Rock, Instrumental
Latest Release: Stream The Wilderness (2016)
Throwback Track: "Your Hand in Mine" (2003)

April 23rd @8PM via Rebel (Doors at 7PM)

3. Chris LaRocca

"Chris LaRocca, a pop artist out of Woodbridge, Ontario... [Recently premiered] his debut single "Closer"... with The FADER. The track's lovesickness is balanced by a hopeful stride, much like how the EDM-influenced pop is brought to earth by tranquil melodies." - The FADER

Genre: R&B Soul
Latest Release: Stream "Closer" (2017) below

April 18th @7:30PM via The Velvet Underground (Doors at 7PM)

4. Wolf Parade

"Wolf Parade formed in Montreal in 2004. The group, comprised of members Spencer Krug, Dan Boeckner, Arlen Thompson, and Dante DeCaro, released three universally acclaimed records for Sub Pop — Apologies to the Queen Mary (2005), At Mount Zoomer (2008), and Expo 86 (2010)." - CMW

Genre: Indie Rock
Latest Release: Stream EP 4 (2016)
Must Hear Track: "I'll Believe In Anything" (2005)

April 21st @11PM via SiriusXM House (Doors at 8PM)

5. Earl Sweatshirt

"Earl Sweatshirt became famous for his music before anyone was sure who he was, or more specifically, where he was. A core member of the Odd Future Wolf Gang collective, Earl was conspicuously absent when Odd Future first began to gain notoriety. It was puzzling because he was referenced by other Odd Future members constantly, although always through the same mystic (catch) phrase, "Free Earl." And his rapping ability was the most technically accomplished of his gang, as evidenced by the dense, clever wordplay and effortless flow of his verses (as well as his lurid subject matter)." - HotNewHipHop

Genre: Hip Hop
Latest Release: Stream I Don't Like Shit, I Don't Go Outside: An Album by Earl Sweatshirt (2015)
Must Hear Track: "Chum" (2013)

April 22nd @11PM via Pheonix Concert Theatre (Doors at 8PM)
