Fafa Khan is a Montreal-based DJ who has a great sense of taste when it comes to mixes. We recently posted about her Osheaga Perrier Mix which instantly became a fan favourite. Fafa Khan has quickly established herself as one of the most sought after international female DJs. At just 18 years old, she began performing and holding residencies in her hometown of Montreal. Hailing of Japanese, Pakistani and Finnish descent, Fafa naturally has an eclectic musical style and spins a tasteful variety ranging from Hip Hop to House.

The 19th edition of the IX Podcast is now available via iTunesSoundcloud and Mixcloud. Tracklist after the jump!

IX: Who is Fafa Khan?

I'm an artist in a lot of different ways... Some people know me as a DJ others think I'm just a painter and a few know me through graphic design.

IX: When did you start spinning music?

I started when I was 18, it was never something I planned on doing I just knew my music so people asked me all the time. I actually took my first real DJing gig before I even knew how to use the equipment, I pushed myself to learn everything in 2 weeks.

IX: Did you have any musical background before getting into the DJ scene?

I taught hiphop dance for years so music videos, choreographies, anything new in that scene I kept up to date with.

IX: What artists have had an influence on what you spin?

Travi$ Scott definitely has had an influence, just based on the production side you literally have to slow down, stop and listen. You don't cut or scratch, you let these types of tracks play. But I wouldn't be anywhere unless I knew all my 90's hiphop - RnB artists, they set the foundation to everything.

IX: What is one of your most memorable moments in your career?

When I was 19 we had Wale perform and the opening DJs were terrible so I went on instead. I was mad nervous but my boy who works in music sent me all the dopest tracks that week which pretty much saved that opening set to get the crowd hype. It just taught me to be on point all the time.

IX: What is the big plan for the next year?

Next year is travelling and production, I love playing in new cities. I don't think hiphop DJs get enough credit for what we do. I stand out being a female DJ but it just means I work twice as hard to be able to DJ next to guys that've been playing for 15 years.
