LARUE is one to look out for, we've had an eye on this talented producer and DJ for quite some time now - and we couldn't be more excited to showcase his talents through our Podcast series. Celebrating Canadian acts is something we're passionate about.  LARUE put together this mix exclusively for us, which has a variety of genre-bending fusions such as r&b, groove, and trap.

The 21st edition of the IX Podcast is now available via iTunesSoundcloud and Mixcloud. Tracklist after the jump!

IX: Who is La Rue?

A producer/DJ out of the streets trynna live life.

IX: When did you start spinning/producing music?

Growing up I got into a habit of making sounds with my mouth, I would think of them sounding comparable to beats in creation. My mother wasn’t so enthused with what was now something I was very fond of. Still with great interest in beat-making, three years ago I decided to purchase the Maschine pad. I was often surrounded by local artists and rappers with similar interests. The energy I received from my experiences throughout the past years boosted my passion for music production. I was driven which led my skills to progress quicker than I expected. I became aware that Montreal’s DJ scene is opportunistic for beat makers to reveal their talents and own unique vibes. In Summer 2014, Zach Macklovitch owner of Saintwoods agency gave me the opportunity to spin at bar SuWu. After that gig, it became crazy. I didn’t realize how popularized trap music was in the scene. I’m now addicted to all this shit.

IX: Did you have any musical background before getting into the DJ scene?

What most people didn’t know is that I was a dancer. I performed in shows as well as was part of a dance crew for competitions. Since I was fifteen years old, I grew up naturally surrounded by artists. I couldn’t find myself being linked to a different crowd.

IX: What artists have had an influence on what you do?

The work of local artists like Kaytranada, Tommy Kruise and High Klassified have always shown me how Montreal’s music scene has big potential. What I look forward to, is becoming apart of the crazed expansion of potential my not so lil city got. That there’s way more to be delivered and the world will take notice.

I feel like music occupies the mind and brings you to a state of liberation. It’s a need to expose myself to the countless possibilities this world offers.

IX: What is one of your most memorable moments in your career up to now?

I have so many turnup times in mind when asked this question. All my gigs are memorable moments foreal, even if I was drunk as fuck lol. I would say my gig at Newspeak with Suicide Year and Tommy Kruise would be the most thrilling. This night I was doing a pre-drink at my crib with all the homies. It was raining and we all thought that nobody would show at Newspeak that night. Despite the weather I was hyped, we all started rushing in the rain on St-Catherine because I was running late for the gig. We came in squadup on the scene and the moshpit was so real. I still remember the intensified atmosphere that got the booth shaking lol. Thanks again to Ray and Kash from Kosa Promotions for this crazy night.

I also got booked 2 weeks in Paris by my Agency Coaton Club last summer. This trip was also one of my memorable moments because it was my first flight.

IX: What is the big plan for the next year?

Much respect to all the organizers and promoters for the opportunities they gave me this year. It was such a turnup year for me which assured myself I can thrive. I put aside my productions as you can see on my Soundcloud. But 2016, Im back on it. Im working on the biggest project I have done so far in life. An EP, video clip and a tour. Summer 2016, stay tuned.
