On Our Radar

Zach Zoya is a 19 y/o Canadian hip-hop artist from Montreal.

When you thought you knew all the underground artists around the small island of the Montreal, here comes another one to swoop the masses. He recently released his first mixtape titled ZACH ZOYA 1.0 which has made us do a double-take.

The level of quality in both the production and lyrical delivery is just astounding for someone who's just appearing on the musical scene. We deem his first mixtape, with 5-tracks under his belt, to be one of the most exciting discovery releases this spring.

We hit him up to ask him a couple of questions, just to get to know him a bit better. Scroll through the questions below and click play on his mixtape after the jump.

When did you start making music ?

I started rapping at sixteen

If you could describe your music using a gif, which ones would you choose?

What is the last text message you sent (or received) about the mixtape?

What has been the reaction so far, since you've released the mixtape?

The response has been very positive so far, but I can't afford to be satisfied with these results.

What are some of the things that Montreal has inspired you to make music?

Montreal is a big cultural melting pot. It regroups people of all nationalities, speaking different languages and giving me different perspectives on my artform. My flow and general vibe is thus influenced by all types of subcultures from the people I come in contact with. Especially the French/english duality, which I find gives my fellow artists and I and totally unique style.

If you have one thing to look forward to in the near future, what would it be?

I will be focused on trying to make my music profitable and available everywhere. To beable to live off my music is was I'm aiming for, that way i could concentrate 100% of my time, energy and ressources on creating a better product a develop myself artistically.
