IX Podcast 10: CRi (download)
You might have heard or seen this name around. CRi has been on our radar since he first emerged with the music video for the title track of his Oda EP. Using analog synths and atypical samples, CRi sculpts a vibrant sonic scape, intangible and grounded at the same time, a perfect balance between intensity and quiet, something that characterizes CRi’s workmanship.
CRi is an electronic producer who sculpts through analog synthesis and sampling of atypical recording a vibrant, intangible and grounded music. His interest in music production peaked when he discovered artists like Floating Points, Mount Kimbie, Lone and Jon Hopkins, who he says are major influences in his music. Without previous musical formation, the Montreal based producer experiments on his own way since 2012. He released his first EP, titled Eclipse, in April 2013. According to Radio-Canada’s journalist Alexandre Courteau “it was the kind of record that pushed me into introspection and nostalgia.” During the summer of 2013, CRi dropped his first video for "Chemin" the lead single off Eclipse, directed by Les Gamins. On the side, he has also been composing scores for a live play and a short film. On May 5th 2014 , the 23 years old musician revealed his second video for "Oda" to announce his next record of the same name (click here). Released on May 19th 2014, Oda emphasized on the balance between intensity and quiet to characterize the CRi’s workmanship.
