You'll Double Over At JFL's Stand Up Down Under
With the Just For Laughs Festival in full swing here in Montreal bring together some of the greatest comics from around the world in the joint effort to make stone-faced Quebecers laugh. Although some of the JFL galas are themed, like the ethnic show, the all star show, and the Brit-ish show, some of the best themed shows can actually be found Off JFL at Zoofest.
Like Stand Up Down Under hosted by Will Anderson playing at Montreal Improv until this Friday, July 25th.
The gala, if you’re so inclined to call it that, features six different comedians from Australia and New Zealand. Each performer was hilarious in their own right, while their styles greatly varied across the board. Anderson capitalized on audience engagement, getting giggles from the crowd as he playfully engaged them in his show, while Felicity Ward (the night’s only female comedian) inspired laughter with clever jokes about dating from a feminist and single woman’s perspective. Joel Creasey spoke about sexuality, Nick Cody was testosterone incarnate, while Jarred Christmas (the only Kiwi) brought tears to audience members as he covered a variety of wildly inappropriate topics. Christmas was also a guest comedian at JFL's Midnight Surprise.
The venue, Montreal Improv, was intimate yet comfortable. It was small enough for the audience to engage with the comedians, yet big enough that you didn't feel like you were in a cramped living room listening to a friend tell jokes.
A highly enjoyable show, with amazing comedians you’re not likely to see in Montreal again for the rest of year, we at IX highly suggest you check out Will Anderson’s Stand Up Down Under.
